This Spanish style Ranch house in the Castle Hills neighborhood of San Antonio was originally built by the family who started the La Quinta Inn chain of hotels. The homes exterior has beautiful Spanish details which define its style and give the home its charming character. When the new home owners decided to renovate the home, they wanted a more transitional feel. Our goal was to design the space to fit the needs and aesthetic of the new homeowners without losing the historic charm and identity of the home as it was originally built. Walls were removed during the renovation in order to open the kitchen up to the great room, allowing for natural light to pass through the entire space and visually expanding the size of the home. Warm textures and natural elements such as reclaimed wood beams, lime plaster walls, stone and wood floors were selected to keep the integrity of the Spanish architecture, while the use of warm white colors gives the bright and transitional feel the homeowners desired. The addition of the large picture window that was inset behind the range allows for natural light to flood into the space while providing the perfect spot to grow herbs to be used while cooking.
