Ridgemont Residence

This cottage style home had its attic converted into an upstairs with three bedrooms a play room and a bathroom. The only issue was that the ceiling height was not tall enough for anyone who was not a child. The bathroom was tiny, dark and you had to bend down to see yourself in the mirror. The only solution was to raise the roof in order to make the space livable. During the demo phase of construction, it was discovered that by raising the roof, we would actually gain 3 feet of space on either side of the bathroom that had been lost due to the low ceilings. What was once just crawl space now was usable footprint inside the bathroom.

Raising the ceilings above existing ridge lines so that we didn’t have to tie in, gave us the opportunity to add transom windows high enough that privacy was not an issue, but would allow for natural light to flood the room from all angles. Shiplap was added and painted white and the ceiling was stained in a vibrant turquoise to match the stained wood tiles behind the sink vanity. The new found space was put to good use by creating privacy for the wall hung toilet by adding a storage cabinet at the entrance. An arched door with faux porthole completed the look in a yellow stained to match the backsplash. This fun, colorful kids bath was dubbed the “poop deck” by the boys who share it.
