Inwood Residence
This 3300 Square foot home, located in the Inwood neighborhood of San Antonio was built in the early 1990’s and was long overdue for some updates. The home was segregated into two parts, with the kitchen closed off. As was the style in the 90’s, there were tray ceilings, furdowns, and florescent lighting in the kitchen and bathrooms. During the renovation the tray ceilngs and furdowns were removed and ceilings on one side of the house raised to match the other side so that walls could be removed and the home would flow together seamlessly. The kitchen was placed at an angle to allow traffic to flow through. This makes for a great space to entertain and really allows the kitchen to be the hub of the home.
We used a monochromatic color scheme and played with various textures of natural, organic elements to create interest in this space. The wood floors were chosen for their color and simple grain pattern with consistency throughout. This crated a nice neutral canvas from which to build. Different cabinet materials were used within the kitchen to add interest. The cabinets that house the wall ovens and pull out pantries are a high gloss material that reflects light and contrasts nicely with the floors which are a matte finish and absorb the light, while the cabinets across from them are a two tone matte black and wood that compliment them. The beautiful veining in the natural stone countertops on the island add interest and the darkness of the material is a nice contrast.
The guest bath is one of the homeowners favorite rooms in the home since the renovation. A large format porcelain tile in a bold agate pattern adds just the right amount of pattern while keeping with the organic, monochromatic theme. The same large format agate tile is used behind the stone sink double vanity above. Brushed brass shower fixtures, lighting and door hardware make for stunning accents in this clean modern space that feels like a luxury hotel.
The master bathroom features a floating vanity with wall mounted faucets and vessel sinks, a makeup vanity with plenty of natural light, and a free standing tub with an entablature that is lighted with LED strips to create the perfect soft ambient light for a relaxing nighttime bubble bath. The floors, shower walls and vanity wall tile are all natural stone in a honed finish to contrast the high gloss cabinets.
